The Limbe Municipal Band
Most official and private celebrations organized in Limbe today are musically coloured by the Omnipresent Limbe Municipal Band. So efficient is the band that many take it, at first sight, for a military band. Its success attracts invitations from the population of Limbe and beyond. The military, gospel and assorted tunes played by the band make it eligible to entertain at every occasion.
Origin
This band was created in April 2003 by the former Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Mr. Lifanda Samuel.
After the first instruments were donated by our Sister-City, Seattle in the United States of America, a team of players coming from all works of life, was put together and trained in strict military style and discipline.
The inhabitants of Limbe were agreeably surprised when the band made its first outing on 20th May 2003 marking the National Day Celebrations. The immaculate military style uniform worn by the players gave room for speculations about the origins of the band. Since then, the band has been serving the community. The band’s is reputation fast growing as it is the only of its kind in the South West Province.
Membership
The Municipal band has a membership of 32 players split unto the drums and trumpet departments.
Regular training exercises are organized weekly to keep the players alert and to learn new songs. This explains why the band has a repertoire of more than a hundred tunes.
Hiring
The population of the South West Province and Limbe in particular is called upon to use the services of the band for official and private occasions. The flat hiring rate stands at 100 000FCFA. The host feeds and takes care of the players.
